CHIL Workwear Australia: 128% Organic Traffic Growth with Country-Targeted Guest Posts
How a focused Australia guest post campaign helped CHIL Workwear rank on page 1 for Hi Vis vest keywords and grow AU organic traffic from 420 to 960 sessions per month.
CHIL Workwear Australia (chil.com.au) sells hi-visibility safety apparel to the Australian market. They came to me with a specific gap: their site had almost no backlinks from Australian domains, which was holding back rankings for the country-specific keywords their buyers actually use, terms like “Hi Vis vest Australia” and “workwear Australia.”
The challenge
- Rankings for target keywords such as “Hi Vis vests Australia” and “Hi Vis Apparel” were sitting on pages 3 and 4 of Australian search results, well below where buying decisions happen.
- The site had only 5 referring domains from Australia-based websites, giving Google very little local authority signal for the AU market.
- Organic traffic from Australian users was modest at around 420 sessions per month, meaning the site was largely invisible to its core audience.
- The workwear and safety apparel space has established players, so building credibility and topical authority required content that matched Australian workplace safety norms and standards, not generic global content.
What I did
Content creation
I drafted a guest post article centred on Hi Vis vests and workplace safety, grounded in local context including references to Australian safety standards and accident statistics. The article covered the different types of Hi Vis vests (Day-Only, Day-Night, and Identification), customisation options such as sublimation, digital, and screen printing, and branding opportunities including logos and safety messaging. Every section was written to be genuinely useful to an Australian trades or safety audience, not just a vehicle for links.
Country-targeted guest posting
I identified Australia-based blogs, business directories, and lifestyle and workwear portals that accept guest contributions. I pitched content tailored specifically to the Australian audience, matching the local regulations, workplace norms, and safety requirements they care about. Once accepted, the guest post was published with a backlink pointing to CHIL’s landing page at chil.com.au.
SEO and backlink strategy
Anchor text was kept natural, using phrases like “Hi Vis workwear Australia” and “safety vests for workers” rather than exact-match keyword stuffing. I focused on building backlinks from Australia-based referring domains specifically, because country-targeted referring domains carry more weight for country-level SERP rankings. I also submitted infographic content provided by the client to Australia-focused sharing platforms to diversify the backlink profile further.
Results
| Metric | Before | After (3 months) |
|---|---|---|
| Ranking keywords (Australia SERP) | 12 | 39 |
| Target keyword position (Hi Vis vests Australia) | Page 3-4 | Page 1-2 |
| Referring domains (AU-based) | 5 | 21 |
| Organic traffic (AU region) | ~420/month | ~960/month |
Australian organic traffic grew by 128%, more than doubling within three months. The target keyword moved from pages 3-4 to pages 1-2, putting CHIL in front of buyers actively searching for hi-visibility safety apparel. The referring domain count from Australian sites grew from 5 to 21, building the local authority signal the site was missing.
Why it worked
- Country-targeted referring domains matter for country-level rankings. Generic backlinks from global or US-based sites would not have moved the needle for Australian SERPs the same way AU-based placements did.
- Content written around local context, Australian safety standards, local accident data, Australian workplace norms, earned placements on sites with genuinely relevant Australian audiences rather than generic blogs.
- Natural anchor text across multiple referring domains created a backlink profile that looked earned rather than manufactured, which protected the gains over time.
- Combining guest posts with infographic submissions to AU-focused platforms diversified the link sources, which is more durable than relying on a single tactic.
